It’s hard to believe that a decade has passed since we lost the American expat lyricist Fran Landesman. Her legacy lives on in this collection, co-written with that delicate pianist Simon Wallace, husband of Sarah Moule, a quietly authoritative jazz singer who has no time for fake sentiment. Mark Lockheart helps to anchor an agile band. The material – most of it previously unrecorded – is as worldly and witty as you would expect: Landesman was a free spirit who harboured few illusions about love and relationships. Moule is the perfect storyteller.
